I am originally from Redding, CA. I studied English at UC Davis and earned my teaching credential at CSU Sacramento. I also have my Master's Degree in Bilingual and Multicultural Education from CSU Sacramento. I have been a teacher for six years, working in Sacramento and Williams, teaching grades 7-12. Prior to teaching English, I worked in a bookstore for many years.
I believe that English is one of the most powerful and important tools available to young people. Imagine a world without words, books or language... There would be no communication, no stories and an inability to express ourselves.
In my classes, we use short stories to learn terms and concepts. We connect our readings to larger themes about life and society, and compare these themes across current events and non-fiction texts. We learn grammar not only through traditional exercises, but through practice and daily openers as well.
